Course Introduction

This two-year BTEC extended diploma will prepare you for a range of careers in engineering or further study at university. You will cover areas including maths and communications for technicians, workshop practices, computer-aided design (CAD), engineering drawing, electrical and electronic principles, and computer-aided manufacturing.

The course covers a wide range of subjects, including:
  • Mathematics for technicians
  • Communications for technicians
  • Engineering workshop practices
  • Electronic fault-finding
  • Computer-aided design
  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Computer-aided manufacture
  • Engineering project
  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or a relevant level 2 qualification.
The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and cooperative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local businesses wherever possible.
Successful completion of this two-year course opens up a variety of exciting progression pathways for your future including higher education, a related apprenticeship or employment.
