Course Introduction

This one-year IMI qualification is perfect if you’re interested in working in the motor industry. This qualification has been designed to be practical, engaging and motivating, to support learners in gaining the key knowledge and skills typically required by vehicle maintenance and repair employers.

You will learn:

Tools, Equipment and Consumable Materials for Vehicle Maintenance
Engine Operation and Components
Engine Cooling System Components and Maintenance
Spark Ignition Engine Fuel System Components and Maintenance
Exhaust System Components and Maintenance
Steering System Components and Maintenance (J/618/7528)
Suspension System Components and Maintenance
Braking System Components and Maintenance
Wheel and Tyre Construction and Maintenance
Vehicle Transmission System Components and Maintenance
Vehicle Electrical Circuits and Components

Entry Requirement

Four GCSEs at grade 1 or above, including English Language and maths, or equivalent.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a combination of practical assignments in the workshop and one online exam. You will also be expected to complete a minimum of 35 hours of work experience.

Where does this course lead to

On successful completion, you could progress to level 2 or into an apprenticeship.
