Counselling Skills - Level 2 CPCAB Certificate (Day)

Course Overview

This course for people who want to work in a helping interaction, with a view to pursuing further study as a Counsellor. It will help to develop self-awareness and provide knowledge and understanding of the necessary counselling skills leading to further theory and practice.

By the end of the course, learners will have gained the understanding of beginnings, middle stage and endings of the helping interaction. They will also learn how to apply a repertoire of skills and to work in silence, have a basic knowledge of the models of counselling and develop confidence that their new found skills can be applied effectively.

Course Content

Units covered include:

  • Able to cope with course content
  • Ability to translate intra-personal experience into language
  • Able to benefit from self-development
  • Be motivated towards developing as a helper
  • Emotional stability
  • Identify reasons for training beyond just personal development
  • References (centre option)
  • Awareness of difference and diversity

A learning review (500-600 words) will need to be completed after each session.

Entry Requirement

To have completed the Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills or something similar.  Tutor reference required.  Assignments will need to be typed so all learners should be IT literate.


There will be a weekly learning record and tutor observation, written assignments (Learning Review at the end of the course and an SA providing evidence of research carried out and how the research article may apply to them), case studies, workshops and end of year exam.

All students will have the opportunity to discuss assessments with their tutor during scheduled tutorials..

Where does this course lead to

Progression on to a Level three Counselling qualification.
