Course Overview

Adverse circumstances can have a negative impact on anyone's life, but children and young people are particularly vulnerable. They might face difficult circumstances such as the death or divorce of parents, domestic violence, or national and international disasters. These types of adverse childhood experiences can have an impact on their development and mental health, which may continue into adulthood and affect their life chances. This fully online adverse childhood experiences course will give you the skills needed to support children and young people affected by adverse experiences. You will gain insight into how to strengthen their resilience and empower them to overcome the challenges they face.

Course Content

This qualification aims to:

Focus on the study of ACEs
Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge.
The objectives of this qualification are to enable the learner to:
Explore childhood and family structures
Explore ACEs and understand potential outcomes for children enduring ACEs
Understand the role of the practitioner in supporting children impacted by ACEs
Develop strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by ACEs.

This course has 3 Mandatory Units:

Exploring childhood and family structures
Introduction to adverse childhood experiences
Developing strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by adverse childhood experiences

Entry Requirement

This qualification will provide learners with an opportunity to develop an understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) relevant to their current or future roles and will equip them with a basic understanding of techniques for preventing and addressing ACEs in practice.

In order to complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:

Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
Will be undertaking your learning within England
Are aged 19 or above
If you are 19-23 years old you must have already achieved a level 2 qualification or equivalent
If you are 24+ there are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will find it helpful to have a good standard of English and maths

Assessment

Studying via Distance Learning means you can choose when and where you study.
We recommended allowing a minimum of 3 to 4 hours per week to study this course in your own time.
You will be given submission dates for each unit to help you stay on track and complete within the allocated timeframe.
