This City and Guilds qualification is delivered at the College and is structured specifically for busy adults.
Modern advanced manufacturing and engineering environments rely on absolute digital precision, and proficient CAD skills are highly sought after by local industry leaders. Whether you want to transition into a design role, upskill for your current employer, or break into the sector for the first time, this course provides a fully accredited, industry-recognised pathway.
This programme is ideal for individuals already employed within the engineering, aerospace, or precision manufacturing sectors who need to gain formal CAD qualifications to hit technical upskilling targets. However, it is equally suited to career changers looking to enter the industry.
You will study the mandatory unit using 2D Computer Aided Design Software (Unit 202), working towards a highly practical, 7-credit qualification.
Classes take place face-to-face in our dedicated, industry-standard CAD suite using professional AutoCAD software, the same tool utilised by top engineering companies. You will learn how to produce, edit, and manage detailed 2D technical drawings. You will move quickly from the basic software layout to complex drawing commands, layers, dimensioning, and scaling, giving you the practical confidence to interpret and create industry-ready schematics.
Subjects covered include:
- Initialising a computer-aided system
- Configuring the drawing system
- Using all drawing functions
- Using coordinate systems
- Modifying drawings using the edit functions
- Using dimensioning
- Using hatching
- Using text functions
- Saving, printing and plotting drawings
- Using blocks function
This is a direct-entry course, meaning there are no formal academic entry criteria, and you do not need any prior CAD or engineering experience to apply. All you need is a keen interest in design, basic IT literacy, and a willingness to learn.
