Course Introduction

This three-day course is designed to build internal capacity and upskill engineering personnel in advanced industrial brazing techniques.

Through 18 hours of targeted, practical instruction, participants will develop the hands-on expertise and theoretical knowledge required to perform specialised brazing operations safely, efficiently, and to exact industry standards.

  • Safe Gas Handling & Storage: Compressed gas cylinder safety, regulator setup, leak detection, blowback prevention, and proper storage protocols.

  • Equipment Setup: Inspecting torches, hoses, flashback arrestors, and setting correct operating pressures.

  • Brazing Fundamentals: Mechanics of capillary action, joint design, clearance allowances, and base metal compatibility.

  • Surface Preparation: Mechanical and chemical cleaning standards for high-integrity joint formation.

  • Thermal Management: Controlling heat input, flame tuning (neutral, carburizing, oxidizing), and avoiding base material distortion.

  • Flux & Filler Metal Application: Selection and application of fluxes, braze alloy characteristics, and wetting action control.

  • Hands-on Joint Assembly: Practical execution of standard joint configurations (tube-to-tube, socket joints, dissimilar metals).

  • Workplace Safety: Personal protective equipment (PPE), fume extraction, and safe hot-work practices.

  • Advanced Joint Execution: Complex joint configurations relevant to HVAC and air handling production.

  • Defect Identification & Troubleshooting: Spotting cold joints, porosity, flux inclusions, and overheating issues.

  • Non-Destructive Inspection & Testing: Visual inspection standards, pressure testing basics, and verifying leak-tight integrity.

  • Practical Assessment & Review: Individual hands-on evaluation, process review, and best-practice feedback.

No formal assessment, practical observation throughout.
