Course Overview

Focusing on the major disciplines within engineering, the learner will gain the knowledge and hand skills needed to develop or build on a successful career in engineering and advanced manufacturing. They are also vital components of an Intermediate and Advanced Engineering apprenticeship.

This level is ideal if you're a school leaver with some engineering knowledge and experience, or you require some engineering skills in your role. You will develop your understanding and practical experience of specific engineering technologies.
This course can help you to progress in a wide range of engineering roles including:

Engineering operative.

 Engineering maintenance technician.

Mechanical engineering technician.

Toolmaker/machine setter

If you are under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade 4 or higher in English and Maths, you will be required to work towards these qualifications.

Course Content

The course will cover the following Engineering subject:

Working in engineering.

Principles of Engineering technology

Principles of manufacturing technology.

Machining components using turning techniques.

Using bench fitting techniques.

Welding by MIG process.

Entry Requirement

X4 GCSE's grade 3 (D) and above, to include Maths and English.

Assessment

During the course learners will do a series of practical based activities and create a portfolio of evidence, they will be observed and assessed throughout the year. There will also be some online exams and some written tests to complete.

This course is a recognised route into a full-time Level 3 course or employment, including an Apprenticeship.
