This qualification delivers a strong foundation in finance. You'll learn the core mechanics of how money moves in a business:
Double-Entry Bookkeeping: You'll master the basic principles of bookkeeping, which is how every transaction is recorded.
Costing Basics: You'll be introduced to basic costing—understanding how to track what things cost the business.
The Ledgers: You'll get your head around the essential records (known as ledgers) for purchases, sales, and general accounts. You'll know exactly where every invoice and payment belongs.
The qualification is also designed to set you up for success in the modern workplace by focusing on key professional themes:
Ethics: Understanding the rules and professional standards you need to follow when handling money.
Technology: Learning how to use the latest digital tools and software that accountants use daily.

- GCSE English and maths (or equivalent).
- Employer Approval: Your boss has to confirm you are competent and ready to do the job properly.
- GCSEs Sorted: You must have your English and Maths qualifications (in line with the rules).
- Qualification Modules Passed: You need to have passed the main learning modules of your mandatory professional qualification - the AAT Level 2 Certificate.
- The Interview (Non-Integrated) - A structured chat with an independent assessor (not your boss or trainer) that lasts about 60 minutes. You can score a Fail, Pass, or Distinction on this part.
- The Knowledge Test (Integrated) - This is a test, often computer-based, where you answer questions in a controlled environment. You can score a Fail or Pass on this part.
