This apprenticeship includes learning about HR support, covering the aspects of day-to-day queries and working on a range of HR processes within a business, whilst using HR systems to keep records up-to-date and provide relevant HR information to the company including any legal changes.

You will learn to take ownership of advising managers on a wide range of HR issues by using company policy and current legislation to give compliant guidance and highlighting any errors that could expose the organisation to employment tribunals or legal risk.

Job roles for an apprenticeship in this sector include HR manager, HR support, HR administrator and HR operations.

Course Content

The primary role of Human Resources Support is to respond to queries and work on a range of HR processes ranging from recruitment to retirement, and support the business with relevant information on HR and keep up-to-date with any changes. You will also gain skills that cover service delivery, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, process improvement and managing HR information.


Throughout the apprenticeship you will learn:
  • Business Understanding - understand the structure of an organisation, the products and service they offer, the external market sector in which it operates, and where your role fits in the organisation.
  • HR Legislation and Policy - understanding the HR sector and its unique features including: HR legislation and HR policy framework of an organisation, and the HR policies relevant to your role and knowing when to find expert advice.
  • HR Functions - understand the role and focus of HR within an organisation, their business plan, priorities, and how these apply to your role.
  • HR Systems and Processes - understand the systems, tools, and processes used in your role along with the standards that must be met, including the core HR systems used by an organisation.

The successful apprentice may be eligible to apply for Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or any other professional body that recognises this apprenticeship within its membership criteria (membership is subject to the professional body's own membership requirements).

Entry Requirement

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including maths and English or equivalent (Functional Skills). 
  • Learners must be employed within the sector to enrol on the apprenticeship.

Assessment

You will be assessed through practical training and assessment at work and attend classroom sessions to complete theory-based learning.

Where does this course lead to

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you can progress further within the profession into a wide range of HR roles across many sectors, or undertake the HR Consultant apprenticeship at Level 5.
