Course Overview

This TQUK qualification is designed for anyone who wants to raise their awareness of mental health and the problems that can cause mental ill-health.

Workers in a wide range of service roles are likely to meet people with mental health issues and needs in their day-to-day work. This could be anyone working in areas like customer service, housing, the voluntary sector, sport and recreation, hospitality or travel and tourism.

This course will specifically support anyone who needs to understand mental health issues in relation to the disability discrimination aspects of the Equality Act.

Course Content

This course consists of the following 13 units, all of which need to be achieved to complete the full qualification:

    • Unit 1 - Understanding Mental Health
    • Unit 2 - Understanding Stress
    • Unit 3 - Understanding Anxiety
    • Unit 4 - Understanding Phobias
    • Unit 5 - Understanding Depression
    • Unit 6 - Understanding Post-Natal Depression
    • Unit 7 - Understanding Bipolar Disorder
    • Unit 8 - Understanding Schizophrenia
    • Unit 9 - Understanding Dementia
    • Unit 10 - Understanding Eating Disorders
    • Unit 11 - Understanding ADHD
    • Unit 12 - Understanding OCD
    • Unit 13 - Understanding PTSD

In each of the above areas, you will develop an understanding of the topic in relation to symptoms, experience for the individual, support needs, how the disorder can be managed and treated and the roles and needs of family and friends.

Entry Requirement

This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 18.


There are no specific entry requirements for the course, but you may find it helpful if you’ve already achieved a level 1 qualification within the health and social care area.


To complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:

  • Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
  • Will be undertaking your learning within England
  • Are aged 19 or above
  • If you are 19-23 years old you must have already achieved a level 2 qualification or equivalent
  • If you are 24+ there are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will find it helpful to have a good standard of English and maths


Assessment

This nationally recognised qualification allows you the flexibility to study in your own time.
We recommended allowing a minimum of 4 hours per week to study this course in your own time.

This is an online course with online learning materials and online assessments.
