As we see an increasingly ageing population, the number of adults needing around-the clock care is on the rise. As well as the need for medical care, there is also a need for high levels of personal care to allow those who need support to live as comfortably as possible.
This qualification focuses on developing a person-centred approach to delivering high levels of personal care.
The purpose of the Level 2 Understanding Personal Care
Needs Certificate is to give learners specialist knowledge to support their work within
the health and social care sectors.
Throughout this course you will complete 6 units covering the following:
- Unit 1 Understanding person-centred care - This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. It provides the learner with the knowledge required to understand how to work in a person-centered way
- Unit 2 Supporting personal hygiene - This unit provides the learner with the knowledge required to support anindividual in maintaining personal hygiene.
- Unit 3 Understanding foot care for individuals - The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding required to support individuals with foot care.
- Unit 4 Understanding how to support individuals to maintain oral health - The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding required to support individuals to maintain oral health.
- Unit 5 Understanding pressure area care - The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of pressure area care. They will also understand good practice, how to follow an agreed care plan and the importance of valid consent in order to carry out pressure area care.
- Unit 6 Understanding sepsis - The aim of this unit is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of sepsis and who it may affect. The learner will also understand signs, symptoms, causes and treatments of sepsis.
To complete this distance learning course at no charge you will need to match the following entry criteria:
- Are a resident of the EEU (European Economic Area) and have been for at least 3 years
- Will be undertaking your learning within England
- Are aged 19 or above
- There are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will need to have a good standard of English and maths.
- Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study.
- We recommended allowing a minimum of 5 to 6 hours per week to study this course in your own time.
- You will be given submission dates for each unit to help you stay on track and complete within the allocated timeframe of 6 months.
- This course is delivered through online assessments and online learning materials.
- You are required to study the learning materials online and then answer knowledge-based assessments that confirm your understanding of the topics.
- We encourage learners to reflect on their own experiences, work-based or personal and include these within their answers where relevant and suitable.
- This is a level 2 qualification, answers should be formed in paragraphs and learners will be required to write in detail, using structured sentences demonstrating knowledge.
- Learners are allocated a Marker, who will provide feedback and guidance on all assessment submissions.
This qualification can support progression to employment in roles such as:
- Care Assistant or Worker
- Adult Social Care Relief Team Worker
- Night Care Assistant
- Home Care Support Worker
- Counsellor
- Health Promotion/Education Worker.
This qualification also supports progression to further learning in the following areas:
- Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England
- Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
- Level 2 and 3 Certificate for Working in the Health Sector
- Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End-of-Life Care
- Level 3 Certificate in Stroke Care Management
- Level 3 Diploma In Allied Health Profession Support
- Intermediate and Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care
- Intermediate and Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Health (Clinical Healthcare Support)
